Home Cinema Room Lighting

Design elements that define cinema performance

Illumination and ambient control are key considerations at the design stage of home cinema lighting. Done well, shading may be fitted to block external sunlight, while the lighting itself is layered across multiple circuits.

Discreet coffered lighting, spotlights, cove lighting, ceiling lights, 5amp lamps, and diffused LED strips can be coordinated through cinema lighting & shading to highlight key design cues within the space and adjust light levels for the cinema experience.

Poorly implemented lighting can become a major distraction. Ambient light should be controlled with blinds or curtains, while fittings should be positioned away from both the screen and audience. Further advice is provided as part of the consultation and design process.

If your cinema or media room forms part of a whole-house renovation or wider scheme, the lighting and shading system can be expanded into other areas of the property.

LIGHTING & SHADE CONTROL

A Lighting & Shade Control scheme adds warmth and visual depth by balancing light fittings, light sources and techniques around the room. We can also provide a lighting design service, including fitting selection, light sources, techniques, a luminaire schedule, and a visual lighting summary.
Shade control is also important in mixed-use spaces such as family rooms or living rooms, where windows or bi-fold doors may be present. This is common within Producer Cinema System and Director Cinema System environments. Automated blinds and curtains can be specified to suit the required function, fabric choice, and interior style.

ROOM CONTROL

With the addition of Room Control, cinema lighting can provide quick access to pre-set scenes and automated control over all circuits within the room. Lighting may be controlled from on-wall keypads, through an app, or from the main system remote, subject to system design.

This also allows lighting scenes to be linked with cinema activities. For example, selecting “Movie” from a Control4 or Crestron Home remote can automatically adjust the lighting to suit the activity. A keypad scene can also prepare the room on arrival by setting the lighting and switching on the relevant equipment.
