Our Client

Underriver is a private residence shaped around a remodelled family home, with extended living spaces and a hidden cinema designed to sit naturally within the wider property. The project required technology that could support daily living, entertainment and control without disrupting the architectural changes or the character of the home.

The client appointed Modus Vivendi to provide a discreet, reliable and intuitive system across lighting, media, access, CCTV and wider home technology. The priority was to support a more connected living environment while keeping the technology integrated, practical and easy to manage.

The Brief

The property was being remodelled and refurbished, which included extending the footprint of the home to the rear, as well as converting the existing shed and greenhouse into usable accommodation connected back to the main house by a glazed link. The design incorporated some unique details, including a hidden cinema space, and with the client’s passion for technology, it was important that the completed house reflected the capabilities of a true smart home.

Our Solution

Modus Vivendi approached the project as a coordinated smart home scheme rather than a collection of independent systems. Crestron Home brought together lighting control, shading integration, video entry and wider home control, while audio, video, Wi-Fi, networking and security infrastructure were supported through a centralised head-end, equipment rack and structured cabling strategy.

Within the hidden cinema space, projection, surround sound, source equipment, lighting control and supporting infrastructure were coordinated as part of the wider scheme. The result was a home where control, entertainment, connectivity and access worked as one considered environment.

Our Client

Horsham is a substantial new-build family residence, understood to be approximately 15,000 sq ft, designed around family living, entertainment and leisure. In a home of this scale, technology needed to support daily life, comfort and control without competing with the design of the property itself.

The client appointed Modus Vivendi to provide a discreet, reliable and intuitive system across comfort, security, media and home cinema. With a basement entertainment complex, garage, gym and games areas, the priority was to restore clarity to a complex residential environment and ensure the technology enhanced the home without adding visual noise or unnecessary complexity.

The Brief

The project needed to be stabilised late in the build, with the property nearing completion and key technology decisions still unresolved. The client required Modus Vivendi to restore technical clarity across the wider home, coordinate the smart home direction, and bring the system design back into a dependable path before handover.

A key part of the brief was to deliver a dedicated home cinema within the basement entertainment complex, while ensuring the wider home integration remained reliable and intuitive. Timing, supply risk during the first COVID lockdown, and the need for dependable whole-home control all required careful management.

Our Solution

Modus Vivendi restructured the system strategy around a Crestron Home platform, allowing the wider property, security, lighting, climate control, and entertainment spaces to be resolved as one coherent environment. Detailed supplier coordination protected programme timing, secured key equipment during lockdown disruption, and kept the project moving at a stage where delay would have carried obvious cost and frustration.
Within the basement level, the home cinema was delivered as part of a much broader leisure setting that also included a garage, gym, and games areas. Bespoke equipment storage supported the wider smart home infrastructure, while the cinema itself was designed around immersive performance, tiered seating, and long-term family use. The result restored confidence as well as control.

Our Client

Chiddingstone is a private residence where an attic space was reworked to accommodate a cinema alongside a guest bedroom, en-suite and utility area. The project required careful planning within a compact footprint, where technology needed to support entertainment without overwhelming the available space or architectural layout.

The client appointed Modus Vivendi to create a discreet, reliable and practical cinema environment supported by clear technical planning. The priority was to make the space work intelligently, balancing performance, comfort and usability within a constrained part of the home.

The Brief

The aim was to turn the attic into a more useful part of the house, centred on shared film viewing, while also accommodating a guest bedroom, en-suite, and utility area. Limited space meant every decision had to work harder without compromising comfort or performance.

Our Solution

To define the direction properly, we invited the client to our demonstration facilities so the specification could be shaped around lived experience rather than guesswork. Once agreed, we coordinated the wider attic scheme with our interior design and building partners, allowing the cinema environment and supporting spaces to be resolved as one project.
Accurate CAD planning was critical in making the footprint work. We integrated two rows of seating, acoustic build-up, a rear bar area, subtle lighting, and dual-aspect viewing capability, while positioning key elements as sympathetically as possible within the roof space. The result balances performance, usability, and design cohesion.

Our Client

This project came from a long-standing client relationship built over more than a decade. Over that time, Modus Vivendi had completed a range of audio-visual works for the property, creating a strong level of trust and a clear understanding of how the family wanted to live with technology.

The Brief

Following a major ground-floor extension during the first lockdown, an additional living room became available for a new purpose. The client wanted a complete turnkey transformation into a dedicated cinema space, while also resolving difficult room proportions and gaining clearer direction on specification and investment.

Our Solution

To define the brief properly, we invited the client to our Chelmsford demonstration facility so they could experience different cinema environments before committing to the final direction. Once the specification was agreed, we created a 3D visual to clarify the layout, finishes, and overall design intent before work began. We then delivered the project as a full room renovation, including a rebuilt front wall, coffered ceiling, bespoke fabric panelling, integrated lighting, projector housing, staged seating, and daylight control. The result is an Executive Cinema System shaped around shared family use, comfort, and long-term enjoyment.

Our Client

The client had recently purchased a new home in Sevenoaks, Kent and wanted to make better use of it for both family life and entertaining. A basement offered clear potential, but the final direction, look, and performance level had not yet been defined, so they needed structured guidance on how to invest well.

The Brief

The initial brief centred on creating a family-focused basement cinema. As discussions progressed, it became clear that the home’s existing Wi-Fi & networking infrastructure was not strong enough to support work, streaming, video calls, and wider entertainment use across the property. The project therefore expanded beyond one room into a broader whole-home technology upgrade.

Our Solution

We began by upgrading the property’s Wi-Fi & networking and broadband performance, after identifying that the existing system could not support the family’s work, streaming, and wider usage demands. With that in place, we designed the basement environment to balance immersive viewing with a more social, relaxed atmosphere. To help the client make decisions quickly and confidently, we produced 3D visuals and presented clearly differentiated options before installation began. The completed scheme combined tailored seating, bespoke fabric panelling, acoustic artwork, controllable mood lighting, and a pool table, resulting in a space that improved both digital reliability and the overall experience of the home.

Our Client

Boughton Monchelsea is a character property where an unused wine cellar was transformed into a dedicated cinema space. The project required technology that could support immersive viewing while working within the constraints of an existing structure, including acoustic treatment, HVAC, ceiling height and room-within-a-room construction.

The client appointed Modus Vivendi to create a discreet, reliable and high-performance cinema environment. The priority was to turn an underused space into a fully resolved home cinema that felt intentional, comfortable and integrated within the character of the property.

The Brief

An unused wine cellar needed to be transformed from a bare shell into a high-performing dedicated cinema space. Because the room required full building works, decorating, and M&E services, the challenge was to resolve both the structure and the experience as one coordinated project.

Our Solution

We began by taking the clients to the Artcoustic demonstration facility in Essex, helping them refine both performance expectations and aesthetic direction before we produced a full rendered design for approval. Once agreed, the project was delivered as a full room-within-a-room build, including a reworked entrance, raised floor, lowered ceiling, heating and cooling, bespoke fabric panelling, a Starscape ceiling, layered lighting, and additional acoustic treatment. We also adjusted the bass strategy, equipment placement, and artwork design to suit the room properly, resulting in a more immersive and complete family cinema that the client now uses daily.

Our Client

Sevenoaks III is a substantial private residence where technology needed to support everyday family living, media use and long-term whole-home control. Rather than treating the system as a one-off installation, the project required a considered approach that could accommodate the client’s existing needs while allowing the home to evolve over time.

The client appointed Modus Vivendi to provide a discreet, reliable and intuitive system across control, media, lighting and wider home technology. The priority was to provide continuity, improve everyday usability and support future upgrades without adding unnecessary complexity to the way the home was lived in.

The Brief

The original brief called for a fully integrated home environment, including property-wide audio and video distribution, CCTV, structured Wi-Fi & networking, aerial and satellite distribution, equipment racking, telephone integration, and a multi-purpose media room that could deliver a convincing cinematic experience without taking over the living space. The later phase focused on upgrading the lighting and shading layer, introducing more precise scene control, motorised shade coordination, occupancy sensing, and a higher standard of tactile control throughout the house.

Our Solution

Modus Vivendi approached Sevenoaks III as a coordinated smart home rather than a set of separate systems. The original installation created the core technical backbone for whole-home audio and video distribution, Wi-Fi and networking, Control4 room control, CCTV, satellite and television distribution, centralised equipment and a dedicated media space.

A later Crestron phase refined the property further through upgraded lighting and shading control, including keypads, touchscreens, remotes, sensors and centralised processing. Together, these elements created a more unified home environment where lighting, shading, media and wider control could work more intuitively in daily use.

Our Client

Woodride_Orpington II is a private residence where Modus Vivendi was first recommended for a specialist fabric wall tracking system within the basement cinema, as this sat outside the capability of the original AV contractor. Early discussions quickly built trust, leading the client to seek wider technical guidance across the project.

The client appointed Modus Vivendi to restore clarity around the cinema specification and wider home technology. The priority was to resolve the technical direction, protect the quality of the final installation and ensure the system could be completed with greater confidence and control.

The Brief

What began as a focused cinema-related instruction soon widened into a broader review of the proposed system design and first-fix cabling infrastructure. A number of concerns were identified, and the brief became one of correcting the scheme without disrupting the live construction programme.

Our Solution

After reviewing the original proposals, Modus Vivendi reworked the system strategy and advised on how the key issues could be resolved more reliably. By that stage, the client had lost confidence in the existing contractor and asked us to take over the project in full. We then redeployed engineers to site quickly to avoid delay and bring the wider scheme back under control. The completed integration combined Control4 home control, Rako lighting, QMotion shading, whole-house Wi-Fi, integrated CCTV, multi-room audio and video, and a dedicated Dolby Atmos basement cinema, resulting in a more coherent and dependable outcome.

Our Client

The clients were renovating and extending their home in Wilmington, Kent following fire damage. Within that wider recovery project, they wanted to create a dedicated cinema and bar area on the ground floor that would feel special, usable, and properly resolved from the outset.

The Brief

Their starting point was a more traditional cinema concept, with a foyer, drinks area, and theatrical detailing leading into the main seating zone. The challenge was to test that direction properly, clarify the room layout, and make sure the space could support a convincing viewing experience before full delivery was committed.

Our Solution

We began with a visual mood board and early concept work to help the clients assess the look, feel, and arrangement of the room. During the discovery process, we then presented alternative contemporary references and design visuals, which shifted the project away from the original traditional scheme and towards a more refined direction. Once the brief was agreed, we produced 3D visualisations and were asked to develop the space as a turnkey solution. The final proposal combined a darker contemporary palette, bespoke fabric panelling, a backlit bar, layered lighting, ceiling treatment, revised seating geometry, and coordinated building works to create a more cohesive family entertainment environment.
